Nurses need to understand the complex needs of transplant patients. The multi-disciplinary team approach includes nursing. Nurses need to understand the evaluation of potential recipients and donors.  They also need to know how to identify potential complications after transplant. By understanding what potential complications may occur, nurses will be able to identify issues in patients.  Nurses will apply the new understanding to the care they provide to the transplant candidate and recipient.



ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Describe the transplant evaluation process including testing, consults and selection of candidates and donors
  2. Discuss the immunologic evaluation of transplant candidates and the pharmacology management after transplant.
  3. Discuss the multi-disciplinary approach to post-transplant management.
  4. Describe the assessment and management of post-transplant complications.
